Why CUSTOM FURNITURE?

Most believe custom furniture is far too expensive for “normal” people. If you’re shopping for high quality retail furniture and fixtures, then we can tell you that no, custom is not out of reach for you and it could be a better value proposition than what you’re considering.

In the following, we’ll explain why custom can be the ideal choice for you and your design plans - keep an open mind!

IT’S CUSTOM!

One of the greatest benefits of custom is the ability to create pieces that work for the humans and the space they’re around. Custom can accommodate any unique specifications and unique aesthetic demand. Wedge shaped room? Long legs but short torso? Sleep-eat-work space? Want to include a family crest, an old photo or handwriting from an old letter? All possible with custom. A good designer with a strong support group of makers and artists can make almost anything come to life. The artistic and spatial license is incomparable contrasted with even the highest quality mass produced items and the results speak for themselves. Pictured here are custom chairs incorporating a thistle, emblematic of our client’s Scottish heritage and also mirroring the thistle-rich wallpapered ceiling.

IT’S LOCAL

In most cases, your custom pieces are made locally. This allows you to have a relationship with the craftsperson/maker/artist which creates a deeper value and connection to what’s being made. In creating something with this relationship, your piece begins to have a story and everyone knows that we all love a good story. Pictured here is a piece that straddles the custom furniture/millwork area, a custom built in bench in the kitchen.

IT’S WELL PRICED

The most common obstacle we experience recommending custom is the perception that having something made for you costs more than something already made/mass produced. If we look at factors such as availability (current wait times commonly span months with some of the most popular high quality retailers), inflation (prices for mass produced items are 10% higher than just last year!), and quality - the results from a master maker - made just for you and even the best mass produced stuff favours the custom almost every time. Pictured here is a custom sofa which was perfectly suited for a difficult space filled with a blend of down and synthetics.

If you can tell by now, we love custom as an option for myriad of items: sofas, chairs, tables, rugs and lighting, to name a few. Working with a design studio possessing strong artist and fabricator relationships avails to you the best that custom furniture has to offer - something totally unique, special and entirely yours.
